Susan J. Carroll is Professor of Political Science and Women’s and Gender Studies at Rutgers University as well as Senior Scholar at the Center for American Women and Politics (CAWP) of the Eagleton Institute of Politics. She is the author of numerous books on women's roles in politics and her recent research examines gender and political representation and the role of gender in elections . Ilana is the President of the Women's Campaign Forum. The organization is dedicated to promoting and supporting women as leaders in politics. Ilana holds an MBA from Harvard Business School as well as a Master of Public Administration from the Kennedy School of Government. Leslie specializes on Women and Hispanic Marketing; Politics and Business
Respected political strategist, community advocate, television commentator and former White House Executive Director. the founder and CEO of Impacto Group LLC, one of the few women-owned communications and market research firms in the United States. Hispanic Business magazine named her one of the nation’s “100 Most Influential Hispanics.”
Maren directs the Women VOTE! program at EMILY’s List – an independent expenditure campaign that mobilizes women voters on behalf of pro-choice Democratic women.  Maren’s background includes work with the national Democratic Party, as a manager and pollster.  She served as the southern regional director for the Democratic National Committee and as national field director for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.   Maren is a recognized expert in the fields of microtargeting  and mobilizing women voters.

Following the Women as Candidates forum, the conversation moved to Women as Office Holders. As a minority in the halls of power, women have found ways to influence the policy and executive decisions that shape American politics.

Women as Office Holders Panelists

Jeannemarie Devolites Davis
Secretary of State of Missouri. She has served in this office since 2005 after a successful career in law and business. She was named a "rising star" in politics by the Aspen Institute in recognition of her ability to work across party lines to get things done. Council President, Baltimore City Council. She was the youngest person to be elected to the Baltimore City Council when elected in 1995 at the age of 25. Ms. Rawlings-Blake is currently serving her fourth term in office. She served in the Baltimore Office of the Public Defender from 1998 - 2006. For more information on Ms. Rawlings-Blake, click here.
Former Virginia State Senator and Delegate. She was originally elected to the House of Delegates in 1997 and was elected the Republican Freshman Class President. When she was elected to the State Senate in 2003 she was the only Republican woman in the Senate. She is the wife of Congressman Tom Davis and is the mother of four daughters. Women are running for public office in larger numbers each election cycle. What challenges do women candidates face and how are they changing the political debate as they run for office? Expert panelists will use historical context as well as current trends to present how women are shaping campaigns and politics.

Former Member of Congress, Connie Morella served the State of Maryland until 2003 after seven terms in office. She gained a reputation for independent voting and her advocacy on women's issues. Prior to her tenure in Congress, she also served in the Maryland House of Delegates. She now serves as the United States Ambassador to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development.
Minyon is a Senior Advisor to the 2008 Hillary Clinton for President campaign. She formerly was the National Political Director for the Democratic National Committee. Minyon currently heads Dewey Square Group's state and local affairs and multicultural marketing practice areas. For more information on Minyon, click here. Karen is the Founder and Director of American University's Women and Politics Institute. The Institute is a leading center for scholarly research on women and politics and political leadership trainings. Karen received her Ph.D. and J.D. from SUNY, Buffalo. "Proactive Women"

A photographic exhibit featuring work by Sharon Farmer.

Our newest exhibit will feature a variety of Ms. Farmer's work, including photographs taken during the Kerry campaign, some of her work in South Africa, as well as work featuring the relationships between women both politically and personally.
